What we know about how Covid-19 Spreads

Person-to-Person Spread

It has been widely reported that the spread of COVID-19 is prevalent by individuals who are in close contact with each other (within about 6 feet), through the projected respiratory droplets that are blown into the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The tiny droplets fall into the mouths or noses of others who are nearby. It is also possible for these droplets to be inhaled into the lungs. This is why COVID-19 is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person.

Spread from contact with contaminated surfaces or objects

According to the CDC, it could likely be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by coming into contact with a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes.

It’s imperative that our employees conduct all biohazard removal with the utmost caution and a strict adherence to OSHA, Industry and safety standards. Our technicians will contain areas, taking all appropriate steps to focus on safety, your family’s safety and the employees safe work as well. The highly trained technicians will be wearing special Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to work on biohazard removal as safely as possible.

Personal Protective Equipment

PPE is a requirement that PuroClean technicians follow thoroughly. While on the jobsite performing cleaning, all technicians will wear the following: A full-face respirator provides protection from splashes that may reach the mucous membranes in the mouth, nose, or eyes. Our professionals will also wear Nitrile gloves, Biohazard protective coveralls and shoe covers.

Hospital-grade EPA-registered Products

Our extensively trained and certified technicians use EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectant products, such as towelettes, with pharmaceutical ingredients that meet OSHA’s bloodborne pathogen standard against diseases like the coronavirus and other disease-causing bacteria, viruses, tuberculosis, mold, and mildew.

The Coronavirus Cleaning Materials

The typical cleaning materials used by our technicians include:

  1. Disposable microfiber wipes, brushes and/or cleaning sponges
  2. Pressure or Trigger sprayers
  3. Tape for Sealing Industrial Trash Bags
  4. Mops and buckets
  5. Portable carpet extractor for cleaning carpets and upholstery

Disinfectant Application Procedures

EPA-registered and hospital grade disinfectants are used during this cleaning phase. Depending on the circumstances, we generally use the following methods:

  1. Spray application: This is the preferred method and can be used when the item or surface is visibly free of dirt or soil. This procedure uses a pump or electric sprayer.
  2. Disinfecting towelettes: If a surface or item has visible minimal light dirt or soil our preferred practice is disinfecting towelettes. These are used along with a pump or electric sprayer on surfaces or items that are visibly lacking soil and dirt.
  3. Microfiber wipes and/or pads: These are used along with cleaning products in a spray bottle, properly labeled. Using these is another method to using pre-treated disinfecting towelettes.

Cleaning Porous Surfaces and Materials

Synthetic carpets, rugs, curtains, and upholstery – Our technicians will either clean these items manually or, for machine cleaning, they will apply approved disinfectants compatible with the cleaning of textiles and carpets and then extract where needed.

Natural fabrics, rugs, curtains, and upholstery must be cleaned in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Important: Washing machines should always be disinfected after contaminated items are washed. For the disinfecting of clothing, linens and other personal fabrics, contaminated pieces are to be laundered per instructions on each label.

Tanned leather items – We can wash these materials by wiping the surfaces with a cloth lightly moistened with disinfectant solution or disinfectant towelettes.

Nu-buck and suede leather material: These items are to be cleaned in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Plywood, OSB (oriented strand board), concrete and cinder block: These particular items are cleaned by the application of the disinfectant solution directly on the surface.

HVAC System: Industry guidelines should be followed for the cleaning of HVAC internal ducts surfaces and components; by a licensed HVAC contractor or NADCA certified duct cleaner. Additionally, the outside ductwork, registers, grates, grills and surfaces are to be washed with the aid of a disinfectant solution.

Deodorizing

Typically, once the infected area is cleaned and begins to dry, odors will go away. However, our crew will decide if further deodorization is necessary.
