When it comes to drywall, there are usually questions about what can be saved after water damage. It can be expensive to replace, so most homeowners will do whatever they can to salvage the drywall. Recently, a landlord in San Antonio called us to perform a restoration due to a leaking hot water pipe in the kitchen of a home. They initially had hired a different restoration company but turned to us because they believed they could not save the drywall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Little Bit of a Can-Do Attitude and Ingenuity Is All It Took<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This job provided us with a bit of a challenge, specifically with the ceiling in the kitchen. There was little room to maneuver in to get to the saturated areas above the kitchen cabinets. We got creative and used the wall cavity drying system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Typically, we use the wall-cavity drying system to blow air into the walls behind baseboards. However, because this space above the kitchen cabinet was hard to get to, we used this system to get air into the ceiling without having to make any cuts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We used our FLIR (Forward Looking InfraRed) camera to locate the water within the walls and then set up the equipment in the bedroom. The wall in this room was saturated with water reading 999 on our Protimeter, which is the highest relative moisture content we can measure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a challenge getting the wall completely dry without making drywall cuts. However, we were able to complete this work in three days. We thoroughly dried the wall and only removed sections of wet insulation that had to be replaced due to the damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The client was pleased with our quickness because she had to put the current tenant up in a hotel until work was complete. She stated that we were “the most honest and clear about the process and followed a conservative approach to repair.” She also sang our praises to the neighbor who also asked us for a business card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
