Happy 4th of July, celebrate in Colorado

Extravagant public displays have become more common in recent years and we have plenty to choose from here on Colorado’s front range.

Here is a list of all the local celebrations we could find and links to all the details.  Many of these civic celebrations have activities going all day.

Monday, July 3, 2017 Fireworks

• Denver (Civic Center Park)– Independence Eve, July 3, 2017 At Downtown Denver’s Civic Center Park beginning at 8:00pm features a free concert complete with a fireworks finale.  Denver Civic Center Fireworks

  Tuesday, July 4, 2017 Fireworks 

• Arvada – Arvada Independence Day Celebration, July 4, 2017, at Lutz Ballfield and Stenger Sports Complex. This celebration begins at 4:00pm. The Fireworks Show will begin at 10:00pm. Arvada Independence Day Celebration
• Boulder – Ralphie’s Independence Day Blast, July 4, 2017. Gates open at 8:00pm, Fireworks begin at 9:40pm. Boulder 4th of July
• Broomfield – Broomfield Independence Day,July 4, 2017 at Broomfield County Commons Park. The celebration will kick off at 5:30pm. Broomfield fireworks
• Commerce City– July 4, 2017, Colorado Rapids game & fireworks at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Watch the Colorado Rapids take on the Vancouver Whitecaps at 7:00pm, and a Post-Game Firework Show! Colorado Rapids fireworks show
• Denver (Elitch Gardens)– Fireworks Presented by Pepsi, July 4, 2017 at Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park. The park will be open all day, the firework show begins at 10 p.m. Glitch Gardens fireworks
• Denver (Coors Field)– Postgame Fireworks, July 4, 2017 at Coors Field. The Rockies play the Cincinnati Reds starting at 6:10PM with fireworks after the game. Colorado Rockies fireworks
• Denver (Sports Authority Field at Mile High)– Mile High Fireworks Show, July 4, 2017, at Sports Authority Field. Fireworks after the Denver Outlaw’s game against the Atlanta Blaze.  Game starts at 7:00pm. Denver Outlaws fireworks
• Estes Park– 4th of July Celebration, July 4, 2017, at Stanley Park. This event includes a car show, live music, mini golf, paddle boating, and even hiking. The fireworks will begin at 9:30pm. Estes Park fireworks
• Firestone – 4th at Firestone, July 4, 2017, at Miners Park. This celebration goes on all day. Fireworks will begin at dusk. The 4th at Firestone
• Golden – July 4th Celebration, July 4, 2017 at Lions Park. This celebration starts at 11:00AM. The fireworks show will begin right after dusk. Golden’s 4th of July
• Lafayette – 4th of July Celebration at Waneka Lake Festivities begin at 4PM
• Longmont – Longmont 4th of July Fireworks Display, July 4, 2017 at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. Longmont Fireworks
• Louisville – Fourth of July Celebration and Firework, July 4, 2017, at Coal Creek Golf Course Clubhouse. The fireworks show begins at 9:30pm. Louisville Fireworks
• Loveland – July 4th Celebration, July 4, 2017. Starting at 10AM there is something going on all day with fireworks at 9:17PM Loveland Fourth of July Celebration
• Northglenn – July 4th Festival, July 4, 2017, at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park. An all day event starting at 8AM. Northglenn 4th of July
• Thornton – Red, White & Boom Bash, July 4, 2017, at Carpenter Park Fields. This event starts at 4:00pm, fireworks will begin at 9:30pm. Thornton July 4th
• Westminster – July 4th Celebration, July 4, 2017 at Westminster City Park. Activities all day with Fireworks at 9:15PM. Westminster July 4th celebration

However, if you want to use fireworks yourself, be safe and be legal.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), fireworks cause an average of 18,500 reported fires and injure about 9,300 people per year in the U.S.

Make sure the fireworks you are using are legal and allowed where you live, every county and town have slightly different rules.  9News compiled a list of some local regulations.  Check local laws for your town and county.

How to Safely Store Fireworks 

• Keep the fireworks outside your home and away from living areas. A locked storage shed is ideal. Keeping fireworks dry is essential, so be mindful of where you store them.
• If you must keep fireworks in areas that can get damp, such as a greenhouse, basement or attic, wrap them up tightly in sealed plastic bags. Put a packet of silica gel desiccant in the fireworks containers.
• Don’t store fireworks or other explosives in self-storage units.
• If the storage area is not prone to humidity, you can keep fireworks in their original packaging or in a fireproof container.
• Store fireworks away from heat or ignition sources such as water heater, as well as from flammable materials like oil or paint.
• Lock fireworks in a cabinet or other container if small children or pets have access to where you store the fireworks.

How to Safely Use Fireworks                              

• Don’t let children handle fireworks, including firecrackers and sparklers. Sparklers burn at about 2,000 degrees and account for more than one-quarter of fireworks injuries.
• Don’t use fireworks if you have been drinking alcohol or are impaired in any way.
• Use fireworks outside, in a clear area, and away from homes, trees, vehicles or other objects.
• Postpone your fireworks display if it’s windy. The wind can push sparks into nearby buildings, trees, or grass, and cause fires.
• Have a bucket of water and a hose handy in case of accidents.
• Wear safety glasses when lighting fireworks.
• Don’t carry fireworks in your pocket as friction may set them off.
• Don’t hold fireworks in your hand or place any part of your body over them when igniting the fuse.
• Never shoot fireworks in plastic, metal or glass containers.
• Never throw or point fireworks at someone. Spectators should keep a safe distance from the shooter.
• Light one firework at a time, and then step back quickly. Don’t try to relight or handle malfunctioning fireworks or pieces of fireworks.
