Category 1: Water loss is a “clean water” loss most commonly a pipe break for example an ice maker line, toilet supply line, pipe break, etc.
Category 2 water loss is a “gray water” loss. Examples are a sump pump failure, waterbed leak, toilet overflow with no feces.
Category 3 water loss is a “black water” loss but in most cases the water is not black in color. It is a backup from a drain (even if it may be clear water) or Category 1 or 2 water losses that have not been attended to for over 72 hours.
