What we know about how Covid-19 Spreads

Person-to-Person Spreading

It has been widely reported that the spread of COVID-19 is prevalent by individuals who are in close contact with each other (within about 6 feet), through small respiratory droplets that are blown into the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The tiny droplets end up in the mouths or noses of others who are nearby. It is also possible for these droplets to be inhaled into the lungs. This is why COVID-19 is believed to spread most prevalently from person-to-person.

Spread from contact with contaminated surfaces or objects

There is a possibility that COVID-19 can be contracted when someone physically touches a surface or object with the virus present, and then touches their mouth or nose. The CDC reports that this type of spreading is highly likely.

Safety as a Priority

While Puroclean is working on biohazard removal, special focus and adherence to safety, industry, and OSHA standards is highly important. Also, our biohazard removal is addressed by technicians who will wear appropriate protective equipment, also known as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). The technicians will section off the areas to undergo the cleaning process, using caution so as to protect customers, their families, and PuroClean employees.

Personal Protective Equipment

First, wearing proper PPE is a requirement. Puroclean technicians wear a full-face respirator to guard against splashes coming in contact with the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, or eyes. The technicians also wear Biohazard protective coveralls, shoe covers, and Nitrile gloves.

Our Hospital-grade and EPA-registered Products

Our industry-certified professionals use EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectant products, including towelettes, composed of pharmaceutical ingredients that meet OSHA’s bloodborne pathogen standard against diseases like COVID-19 and other disease-causing bacteria, viruses, tuberculosis, mold, and mildew.

Coronavirus Cleaning Materials used by PuroClean

The most common cleaning materials used by PuroClean professionals include:

  1. Portable carpet cleaners for carpets and upholstery
  2. Buckets and Mops
  3. Trigger or Pressure sprayers
  4. Garbage bags and tape for sealing
  5. Disposable microfiber cleaning brushes and sponges

Our Application Procedures for Disinfectant

Depending on the circumstances, our professionals apply EPA-registered hospital grade disinfectants using three techniques.

  1. Spray application – This procedure uses a pump or electric sprayer. It’s the preferred system and can be used whenever the surface or item is visibly free of soil and dirt.
  2. Disinfecting towelettes: If a surface or item has visible minimal light dirt or soil our preferred practice is disinfecting towelettes. They are used with a pump or electric sprayer on surfaces or items that are visibly free of soil and dirt.
  3. Microfiber wipes/pads: Put to use as alternatives to the towelettes, using these along with cleaning products from an appropriately labeled bottle is useful.

Cleaning Porous Surfaces and Materials

Synthetic carpets, rugs, curtains, and upholstery – Our technicians will either clean these items manually or, for machine cleaning, the technicians will apply approved disinfectants for textiles and carpets and then remove stains where applicable.

Natural fabrics, curtains, upholstery and rugs need cleaning that is in accordance with the guidelines of the manufacturer.

For the disinfectant of clothing, linens and other personal fabrics, the contaminated articles should be laundered per label instructions. NOTE: washing machines should be thoroughly cleaned after washing contaminated materials.

Leather tanned materials: PuroClean will clean these materials by using disinfectant towelettes for wiping the surfaces with a lightly dampened cloth.

Suede and Nu-buck leather material – Cleaned according to manufacturer’s guidelines.

Plywood, wood, block, cinder block, concrete and OSB (Oriented Strand Board): Washed by the application of disinfectant solution onto the surface.

HVAC systems: The internal duct surfaces of the HVAC system and components should be cleaned by a licensed HVAC contractor or a duct cleaning specialist who is NADCA certified in accordance with industry guidelines. Additionally, externally located ductwork grates, grills, surfaces and registers are to be cleaned with disinfectant solution.

Our Deodorization Process

It is common for the bad smell to dissipate once the infected areas are clean and begin to dry. However, our trained professionals will make the determination if further cleaning and deodorizing is required.

PuroClean’s Promise

We understand that a biohazard event can be stressful and sensitive and must be handled with empathy, care and discretion. PuroClean restoration professionals are fully licensed and certified to follow all applicable laws and standards to remediate incidents safely.

RESPECTFUL: Our certified biohazard cleaning technicians treat every affected area and item professionally and respectfully, as if it were their own.

HIGHEST STANDARDS: PuroClean uses proven products approved to provide protection, prevent contamination and reduce the risk of spreading dangerous pathogens.

ADVANCED CLEANING SYSTEM: Our RapidDefense process disinfects and even reduces virus and other pathogen-based contamination in nearby areas. This is an innovative procedure that we use in order to disinfect public places the most effective way possible.

Our Equipment Disinfection and Cleaning

Before leaving a site that has been infected with the coronavirus, our technicians will do a thorough cleaning of all equipment and tools used in the coronavirus cleanup with an EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectant.

Per the CDC, Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces are the recommended actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, like coronavirus. Since any surface can be re-contaminated after cleaning, and because the coronavirus is also spread person-to-person, PuroClean’s services are not guaranteed to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html) for more information regarding coronavirus, its spread, and prevention.
