A Vexing Vacation Ending

In May, we received a call from a client seeking our services for a multi-step remediation process. The client and her family of five were out of town when they returned to discover significant damage to their home.

Their water heater had eroded, leaving behind a large leak. As a result of the standing water, mold appeared. Mold growth is a serious concern that needs to be addressed quickly due to its effects on property and human health. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, “Mold exposure can potentially lead to various health effects and symptoms, such as allergic reactions, asthma, and other respiratory complaints.”

Once we arrived, our technicians went to work to remediate the water and mold damage. The first step in the process was cleaning the affected areas to prevent further spread of mold. We fogged the airspace and applied a specialized cleaning solution to the impacted areas.

After our skilled team safely treated the mold, we continued with the reconstruction phase of the project. We cut out the wet plaster, replaced the structural components that were damaged by water, and patched up any remaining holes.

Before proceeding with the reconstruction, however, we used our state-of-the-art drying equipment, including air movers and dehumidifiers, to dry out the area of any excess moisture. Once the affected areas were dry, we installed new drywall.
