This year, the theme focuses on the importance of replacing smoke alarms every 10 years, as well as being aware of your smoke alarms\u2019 production date.<\/p>\n<p>This is the third year in a row that smoke alarms are the main theme of Fire Prevention Week. This is because, according to NFPA\u2019s survey data, many people don\u2019t know how old their smoke alarms are and how often to replace them. In keeping with the theme, NFPA recommends that you find the date of manufacture on the back of alarms and keep note of it. Replace them if they\u2019re more than 10 years old. While you\u2019re at it, test the smoke alarms by pushing the test button. Also remember to replace batteries at least once a year.
