Tis the season indeed \u2014 and oh, what a warm-hearted way to kick off the holidays! \ud83c\udf1f This month, PuroClean of The Big Island spread extra aloha by sponsoring and hosting a special \u201cHoly Grounds Coffee Service\u201d at St. Joseph School<\/a> in Hilo. On the first Friday of the month, as parents pulled up for morning drop-off, they were greeted with the irresistible aroma of free coffee, along with delicious cookies, candies \u2014 and lots of holiday cheer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents mingled, greeted each other, and picked up cheerful cups of coffee while chatting and catching up. As they sipped, representatives from PuroClean handed out informational pamphlets, giving folks a chance to learn about their services while they stood under the school tent and waited for the school bell to ring. It was a sweet, community-centered moment \u2014 parents enjoying treats, imparting holiday smiles, and feeling the spirit of giving that makes this time of year extra special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A big mahalo goes out to Victor Haanio of HVL & J Farm, Inc., whose generous donation of coffee made the morning magic possible. And of course, huge thanks to the faculty and parents who helped set up \u2014 arranging tables, serving cookies, greeting families, and making sure everything ran smoothly. Their combined effort made the morning feel festive and welcoming, like a slice of Christmas spirit served with every cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One especially proud moment: Yaeko \u2014 Administrative Specialist at Puroclean and<\/em> current student at St. Joseph \u2014 stood tall with a couple of classmates and hoisted the flag for the morning presentation. A beautiful symbol of pride in school, community, and culture. Talk about embodying the spirit of \u201cohana\u201d and service!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Little About St. Joseph School\u2019s Rich Local History<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

St. Joseph School holds a special place in Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s history. Founded way back on April 1, 1869 \u2014 making it the oldest private school on the Big Island \u2014 it began as a small parish school of just 42 students, with a mission to teach English and Catholic faith to native Hawaiian and immigrant children. Over the decades, the school grew, evolved, and eventually merged the earlier separate boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 schools into one coeducational institution at its current location on Ululani and Hual\u0101lai Streets \u2014 a consolidated campus that opened after World War II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, St. Joseph provides a cradle-to-college-prep education: from a Montessori-based preschool through 12th grade, blending rigorous academics, faith, and a warm community spirit rooted in aloha. Over its more than 150 years, the school has welcomed generations of students \u2014 local families, multi-cultural backgrounds, immigrants, and Hawai\u2018i-born keiki alike \u2014 all under the guiding values of service, respect, and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This morning\u2019s event \u2014 coffee, cookies, community, and smiling faces \u2014 felt like a festive nod to that long legacy: a school deeply embedded in local history, reaching into the present with generosity, service, and aloha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
