This is especially true for the humid North Carolina summers. On an 85\u00b0F day, the interior of a car can reach over 100\u00b0F in just 10 minutes. Every year around summer, emergency responders in our state rescue pets left in vehicles. Unfortunately, some don\u2019t make it. Cats and dogs with light skin or thinner coats are especially at risk. Use only veterinarian-approved sunscreen on exposed areas, in between fur and behind ears. Avoid products with zinc oxide or PABA, which are both toxic to animals. Likewise, protect against fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes with vet-recommended bug sprays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. <strong>Provide Shade and Proper Ventilation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your pet spends time outdoors, make sure there\u2019s plenty of shade and airflow to hide from the sun.
