Gone Batty: Biohazard and Mold Remediation in Rising Sun

Biohazard Clean Up

Property damage can drive you crazy. However, nothing is crazier than when different types of damage happen simultaneously. Mold remediation is already a significant challenge without including biohazard remediation in the equation.

In such cases, drastic action is necessary, and you’ll need professional intervention. Mold and biohazards carry health risks that only licensed experts with proper equipment and experience should handle. It’s the best way of ensuring your and your family’s safety while doing the job right.

When Biohazards and Mold Collide

We recently answered a call from a mother and daughter who relocated to Rising Sun from Nashville, TN. Unfortunately, the beautiful, historic brick home they purchased had a bat infestation in the attic and mold spreading along multiple areas. We immediately began an inspection once we arrived on the scene.

Thankfully, our attic inspection found no lingering bats, but bat droppings were all over. In the living area, we used advanced moisture meters and infrared cameras to track the spread of the mold and found that it had also reached the basement. We also discovered that the moisture source for the mold was due to broken gutters and damage along the home’s brick exterior.

With our initial inspection complete, we decided our first task would be cleaning up the biohazard waste in the attic.

The Biohazard Remediation Begins

Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), our experienced team used a specialized insulation removal vacuum called a Versa-Vac to remove much of the insulation and the bat droppings in the attic. Once we removed the biohazardous waste, we began the decontamination process.

Our skilled technicians thoroughly vacuumed up all the contaminated insulation and bat droppings.

This involved using a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter vacuum along the attic surfaces, which removed any remaining airborne particulates from the bat droppings. Then, we cleaned all the attic surfaces with antimicrobial agents. With the attic biohazard remediation completed, we moved on to the mold remediation downstairs.

Taking on the Mold Remediation

In line with standard mold remediation procedures, we extracted severely impacted building materials from the living area, including plaster walls, paint, and baseboards. Similarly, we removed the basement ceiling. With a considerable portion of the home’s framework now visible, we were able to clean the remaining mold growth using HEPA vacuums along the basement and living area walls.

All that remained was the drying process using industrial dehumidifiers throughout the house. We monitored the moisture levels daily to ensure optimal conditions. Once completed, we applied an antimicrobial solution as a finishing touch, providing added protection against potential mold recurrence in the future.

The mold had spread across multiple areas of the lovely historic home.

With all our work finally completed, the mother and daughter were able to move in and enjoy their gorgeous, historic home, restored and safe. Fantastic job, team!
