Project Description:

In 2022, Hurricane Ian landed as a Category 5 storm with 155 mph winds and a catastrophic storm surge. Over 20 inches of rain hit the Naples area with significant flooding that brought swaths of sand and sediment from the Gulf of Mexico and Naples Bay. Even worse, the sand and sediment turned into a slippery, smelly muck that covered city streets and blocked most with piles of sand. The condominium suffered extensive water damage throughout the property. Five feet of water inundated the interior main floors, rendering them uninhabitable. The storage lockers of the 76-unit owners on the main level suffered complete content destruction. The parking garage held broken vehicles coated in mud. The pool area bore the brunt with 23 damaged cabanas, while the pool, hot tub, grounds, and fountains became filled with ocean debris and mud. In addition, the Gulf View units on all 20 floors had water damage, and the elevators were unusable and damaged. All permeable building materials and damaged items from the storage units located within the building had to be removed, and the structural components needed to be cleaned. This would be a logistic nightmare for most restoration companies, but not for the PuroClean National Response Team.

PuroClean Intervention

When dealing with a loss at a high-rise condominium, there are significant challenges due to the sensitive nature of the condo owners and the mass of loss. When PuroClean responded to this loss, the first order of priority was to ensure we correctly removed and categorized all damaged items for each homeowner under the supervision of the HOA. This included the need for restorative drying of salvageable items. Once those items were secure, we needed to assess the building and see the proper scope of work to bring it back to its pre-loss condition.

PuroClean National Response Team coordinated response with our response teams and sub-contractors, allowing us to secure the high-rise condominium and properly remove all non-salvageable building materials with haste so that the client could return to normal operations as quickly as possible. Our rapid response allowed us to secure areas for debris removal and mitigate bacterial growth throughout the building.
