We have curated some valuable tips that can help ensure pet safety this holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pet Safety Tips For This Holiday Season<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cleanup regularly the fallen Christmas tree needles as they can be very sharp and easily get stuck in your pet\u2019s paws, fur, or throat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Securely anchor your Christmas tree so it doesn\u2019t tip and fall, causing possible injury to your pet. Change regularly the tree water, as stagnant water is a breeding ground for bacteria and your pet could end up with nausea or diarrhea should it drink it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opt for just-as-jolly artificial plants made from silk or plastic, or choose a pet-safe bouquet, as mistletoe, lilies, poinsettias and hibiscus can be poisonous to pets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Protect electric cords and tree lights so that your pets can\u2019t chew them and get electrocuted. A punctured battery can cause burns to the mouth and esophagus, while shards of breakable ornaments can damage your pet\u2019s mouth so keep batteries out of your pet\u2019s reach.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use appropriate candle holders, placed on a stable surface. If you leave the room, don\u2019t leave lit candles unattended. Pets may burn themselves or cause a fire if they knock candles over.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid using tinsel, which can lead to an obstructed digestive tract, severe vomiting, dehydration and possible surgery, if it\u2019s swallowed. Remove any wrapping paper off the floor to avoid your pet chewing it or being suffocated by it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place unattended alcoholic drinks where pets cannot get to them. If ingested, your pet could become ill and may even go into a coma, possibly resulting in death from respiratory failure.\u00a0Every year, hundreds of dogs die after a single bout of alcohol consumption. Dogs are often attracted by the sweet taste of drinks, especially eggnog.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure all of your medications are locked behind secure doors, and be sure to tell your guests to keep their meds zipped up and packed away, too.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep in mind that strings of confetti can get lodged in a cat\u2019s intestines, if ingested, perhaps necessitating surgery. Noisy poppers can terrify pets and cause possible damage to sensitive ears.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buy your pet\u2019s present from a reputable pet shop or veterinary clinic. Make sure your pet doesn\u2019t ingest any children\u2019s toys.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give your pet his own quiet space to retreat to \u2014 complete with fresh water and a place to snuggle. Shy pups and cats might want to hide out under a piece of furniture, in their carrying case or in a separate room away from the hustle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, remember that a pet is for life, so never give pets as surprise gifts.
