A fire caused by running the air conditioner resulted in equipment and smoke damage to Streamwood, IL home.
Earlier this summer, PuroClean of Romeoville was called out to help a family mitigate smoke damage loss.
A townhome in Streamwood was running the air conditioning, like most of us during the warm early summer months. However, in this case, the air cleaner unexpectedly caught fire.
Fortunately, the homeowner was able to cut the power and call the fire department quickly, though not before damage had already occurred. Luckily, the actual fire was limited to the air handler and furnace, but thick black smoke had already poured through the ductwork, dirtying the entire home.
The homeowner called their insurance company, who then reached out to us.
PuroClean of Romeoville was able to respond on the same day and meet with the homeowner. We quickly prepared a scope for fire restoration for the entire home interior and had approval from the insurance adjuster the very next day.
Our scope of work included cleaning all the bedrooms, bathrooms, living room, kitchen and utility room. There was smoke damage to carpeting, drywall, paint, and ductwork. The ducts were cleaned, we had the HVAC system replaced and our hard-working and dedicated team spent three days cleaning the whole home, from top to bottom.

Given the extent of the smoke damages, the flat ceiling paint needed to be repainted and the carpets needed to be replaced. Aside from those items we were able to clean and deodorize the home as well as the owner’s personal property following the loss.
Our customer was thankful for our timely response, attention to detail and good communication, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to help them!
