Specialized Equipment Helps “See” the Damage from a Water Leak!

A townhome owner in Plainfield learned that the hard way when their water heater failed and caused a significant water leak throughout walls and ceilings of their home. They needed help fast, and they called in the ‘paramedics of property damage’ PuroClean of Romeoville to mitigate!

The water heater tank in this homeowner’s 2nd floor laundry and utility room failed and started to leak – which a problem on it’s own – but these types of events can cause lots of damage because the water travels everywhere – not only thru floor-to-ceiling, but down through walls to the subflooring on levels below.

Armed with advanced tools like moisture meters and thermal imaging technology, our team was able to accurately locate hidden pockets of moisture within the walls and ceiling that were not visible to the naked eye. The home had wet drywall, trim and water damaged flooring. This is the type of thing that can fester if left ignored – creating problems like mold and material deterioration down the line.

In this case, the water damage affected the floor in the upstairs laundry room and then seeped down in to the kitchen and bathroom on the first floor. Fortunately, we were able to act quickly and we used our specialized equipment to find all the moisture hidden in the structure. Then, using our detailed view of the water, we targeted the affected areas with drying equipment, dehumidifiers, axial air movers and selective demolition. This allowed for the required airflow to return the home to a safe and normal moisture level.
