When a shower cartridge leak in an upstairs bathroom of a Tierra Santa area townhome led to water seeping into the dining room below, PuroClean of Del Cerro was quick to respond. A skilled crew led by Lead Technician Danny was dispatched to the site. Danny and his crew conducted an extensive evaluation of the affected areas, pinpointing significant damage in both the upstairs bathroom and the downstairs dining room.
Efficient Drying and Monitoring
Recognizing the importance of swift action to mitigate water damage, our team installed one dehumidifier and three air movers in the upstairs bathroom, and an additional dehumidifier complemented by six air movers (including three axial and three centrifugal fans) in the dining room. To prevent further spread of moisture and to facilitate efficient drying, we erected plastic barriers around these critical areas. This setup operated continuously over three days, with our team meticulously monitoring the progress and preparing for the necessary structural interventions.

Demolition and Meticulous Cleanup
As the drying process proved effective, we began the demolition of unsalvageable materials. This included removing cabinetry and baseboard in the bathroom, along with a two-foot flood cut of the affected walls to remove compromised drywall and insulation. Thankfully, the tile flooring in the bathroom was successfully dried in place and preserved. In the dining room, we removed the affected ceiling drywall and insulation, as well as wall drywall and baseboards, ensuring all damaged elements were addressed.
To minimize dust and maintain a safe environment during this phase, two HEPA air scrubbers were deployed—one for each affected zone.

Detailed Cleaning and Final Drying
With the bulk of the demolition complete, our focus shifted to detailed cleaning. We removed every nail and screw from the framing to prepare for thorough cleaning and restoration. All surfaces were meticulously HEPA vacuumed to remove dust and debris. We then treated the exposed areas with an anti-microbial spray to prevent future microbial growth, followed by a comprehensive wipe down of the entire structure.
As a final step, we repositioned our drying equipment to ensure all newly exposed areas were thoroughly dried, aligning with our high standards for moisture removal.
Completion and Restoration Readiness
By the following day, our careful and continuous monitoring confirmed that all materials had reached the required drying standards. The townhome was now moisture-free and structurally sound, ready for the final repair and restoration stages.
