Rescuing a Home From Extensive Damage

The month of October was eventful for the residents of Del Cerro, especially for one homeowner who experienced a Category 2 water loss due to a shower faucet leak in the bathroom. This incident led to water damage that affected three zones: the bathroom, the adjacent bedroom on the main level, and the crawlspace underneath. Let’s dive into how PuroClean of Del Cerro meticulously restored the home and prevented further complications.

The Extent of the Damage

The water damage was extensive. The shower’s leak resulted in damage to the drywall, insulation, stone flooring, and the shower enclosure. All these components had to be removed, treated, and restored to their former glory.

Before diving into the restoration, our team at PuroClean of Del Cerro took precautionary steps. We moved and manipulated some items on the main level to ensure they remained pristine and unaffected during the demolition process. Further, we built plastic containments, creating a barrier to seal off the working areas, ensuring no contaminants spread to other parts of the house.

The Restoration Process

The bathroom bore the brunt of the damage. Our restoration process began by detaching the toilet. Then, the stone walls and flooring were carefully removed, followed by the extraction of the shower enclosure and vanity. Once all the severely damaged materials were removed, we treated the affected zones with an anti-microbial solution to prevent mold growth and other related complications. The adjacent bedroom was lucky, showing no elevated moisture levels. However, to be thorough, we made an inspection cut to double-check for any standing water hidden behind the shower enclosure.

The crawlspace, located beneath the affected zones, also suffered some damage. We had to remove parts of the drywall and insulation. After the removal, the areas were treated with an anti-microbial solution to ensure no mold or bacteria growth.

The Drying Process

Post cleanup, the drying process commenced. For the three affected zones, we employed 2 dehumidifiers and 2 air movers to facilitate rapid drying. Recognizing the value of the marble flooring, we also used floor rescue mats – specialty drying equipment designed to salvage as much of the luxurious marble flooring as possible.

In Conclusion

Water damage can be catastrophic, but with expert intervention, it doesn’t have to mean the end of your precious home components. PuroClean of Del Cerro’s meticulous approach to restoration meant that this home was not just restored but was also safeguarded against future potential issues like mold. Always remember, timely professional intervention is the key to efficient restoration. If you find yourself in a similar situation, don’t hesitate to reach out to professionals promptly.
