When a clean water supply line under a kitchen sink ruptured in a La Presa home, it resulted in extensive water damage affecting multiple zones, including the kitchen, hallways, living room, and bathroom. PuroClean of Del Cerro quickly dispatched a crew to handle the situation and mitigate the damage effectively.
Comprehensive Inspection and Immediate Action
Upon arrival, the inspection revealed significant damage to the home’s drywall, insulation, baseboard, flooring, cabinetry, and tile. To address these issues, the team installed three dehumidifiers and eight air movers across the affected areas, setting up plastic barriers to isolate and concentrate the drying process effectively.

Monitoring and Strategic Demolition
Over three days, our team carefully monitored the drying process, preparing for the demolition of materials that were deemed unsalvageable. When moisture levels were reduced and approvals were given, we began our tear-out phase. During this phase, two HEPA air scrubbers were utilized in the respective zones to minimize dust and maintain a safe environment for our technicians and the home’s occupants.
In the two hallways and living room, affected baseboards were removed first, followed by a two-foot flood cut of the drywall and the removal of damaged flooring and a full-height cabinet. We then removed affected flooring and underlayment.
In the bathroom, the bathtub enclosure and wall tiles were dismantled, and a two-foot flood cut was made to remove affected drywall and insulation.
The kitchen, the origin of the leak, required careful dismantling of the cabinetry under the sink and shoring up the countertop with 2x4s to prevent further damage. A two-foot flood cut of the drywall was also executed here.

Thorough Cleaning and Microbial Prevention
Once demolition was completed, the team moved on to detailed cleaning of the structure. This included removing every nail and screw from the framing to ensure thorough sanitation and ease of reinstalment. All areas were then HEPA vacuumed to remove any remaining dust and debris, followed by treatment with an anti-microbial spray to prevent future microbial growth and a full wipe down of the structure.
Final Drying and Restoration Readiness
With the cleaning phase complete, drying equipment was repositioned to optimize the drying of newly exposed areas. By the next day, all materials had achieved the required drying standards, and the home was declared ready for the necessary repairs.
