What we know about how Covid-19 Spreads

The Spreading of Person-to-Person

Individuals that are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet) are at the highest risk of spreading COVID-19 in a “person-to-person” manner. Small respiratory droplets projected through coughing or sneezing produce small particles that can land on the nose or mouth or be inhaled into the lungs of someone nearby. This is most commonly how COVID-19 spreads quickly. Therefore, it is thought that person-to-person is the most common way the disease spreads.

Spread from contact with contaminated surfaces or objects

As stated by the CDC, there is a possibility that someone can contract COVID-19 by touching a surface or object with the virus on it and then placing their hand on their own mouth, nose, or even their eyes.

Safety as a Priority

It is key to perform biohazard abatement with strict attention to safety and industry and OSHA guidelines. Our trained staff wear special Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure their safety. They also identify the area, taking the needed steps to keep you and your family or employees out of harm’s way as well.

Personal Protective Equipment

All of our trained technicians are required to wear PPE. The protective equipment includes a full-face respirator that provides protection from any type of splashes reaching the mucous membranes in the mouth, nose, and eyes. Additionally, our technicians wear Biohazard protective coveralls, Nitrile gloves, and shoe covers.

Hospital-grade EPA-registered Products

Our industry-certified technicians use EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectant products, including towelettes, composed of pharmaceutical ingredients that meet OSHA’s bloodborne pathogen standard against diseases like the coronavirus and more disease-causing bacteria, viruses, tuberculosis, mold, and mildew.

The Coronavirus Cleaning Materials

The cleaning materials our technicians typically use include:

  1. Portable carpet cleaners for carpets and upholstery
  2. Mops and buckets
  3. Trigger or Pressure sprayers
  4. Tape for Sealing Industrial Trash Bags
  5. Disposable microfiber wipes, brushes and/or cleaning sponges

Procedures for Disinfectant Application

Puroclean implements three methods when using these disinfectants. Depending on the circumstances, technicians apply hospital grade, EPA-registered disinfectants in one of these three methods:

  1. Spray application – This procedure uses a pump or electric sprayer. It’s the most common system and can be utilized whenever the surface or item is visibly free of soil and dirt.
  2. Disinfecting towelettes: If any surface or item has visible minimal light dirt or soil our preferred method is disinfecting towelettes. These are used along with a pump or electric sprayer on locations or items that are visibly free of soil and dirt.
  3. Microfiber wipes and/or pads: These are used along with cleaning products in a spray bottle, properly labeled. Using these is an alternative to using pre-treated disinfecting towelettes.

Cleaning Porous Surfaces and Materials

Synthetic rugs, carpets, curtains and upholstery: PuroClean will clean these items manually or by machine cleaning. Approved disinfectants for the appropriate cleaning of the textiles and carpet will be applied for the cleaning; spot removal will be done where needed.

Natural fabrics, rugs, curtains, and upholstery must be cleaned in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.

For the disinfectant of clothing, linens and other personal fabrics, the affected articles should be laundered per label instructions. NOTE: washing machines should be thoroughly cleaned after washing contaminated materials.

Tanned leather materials – PuroClean will clean these material items by wiping the surfaces with a lightly moistened towel and disinfectant sprays or disinfectant towelettes.

Suede and Nu-buck leather items – Cleaned according to manufacturer’s guidelines.

Concrete, cinder block, wood, plywood, and oriented strand board (OSB) – Cleaned by applying the disinfectant solution directly onto the items.

HVAC System: Industry regulations should be obeyed for the cleaning of HVAC internal ducts surfaces and components; by a licensed HVAC contractor or NADCA certified duct cleaner. Also, the outside ductwork, registers, grates, grills and surfaces are to be washed using a disinfectant solution.

Our Deodorization Process

Our technicians shall make the decision whether more cleaning and deodorization will be needed. However, typically once the infected areas are cleaned and start to dry, the odors will disappear.

The PuroClean Promise

We understand that a biohazard event can be sensitive and stressful and must be handled with empathy, care and discretion. PuroClean restoration professionals are fully licensed and certified to follow all applicable laws and standards to remediate incidents safely.

RESPECTFUL: Our experienced biohazard cleaning technicians treat every affected area and item professionally and respectfully, as if it were their own.

HIGHEST STANDARDS: PuroClean uses proven products approved to provide protection, reduce the risk of spreading pathogens and prevent contamination.

ADVANCED CLEANING SYSTEM: Our RapidDefense process sanitizes and even reduces virus and other pathogen-based contamination in nearby areas. This is an innovative procedure we use in order to disinfect public places the most effective way possible.

Proper Equipment Cleaning and Disinfection

EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectant will be used to clean all cleaning implements that was used during the coronavirus cleanup. Before leaving the site that was contaminated with the coronavirus we will conduct this meticulous cleaning.

Per the CDC, Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces are the recommended actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, like coronavirus. Since any surface can be re-contaminated after cleaning, and because the coronavirus is also spread person-to-person, PuroClean’s services are not guaranteed to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html) for more information regarding coronavirus, its spread, and prevention.
