As an insurance professional, why is it important to understand mold and how it can affect a property damage claim?

  • Where there’s water, there’s mold: visible mold can begin growing in as little as 24-48 hours at room temperature in wet environments, making mold a factor in many water damage claims.

  • Mold hysteria: Some property damage restoration contractors, “less invasive” mold removal companies, and sellers of household mold test kits have used marketing to create unreasonable fear of mold while lining their pockets. Consequently there is widespread misunderstanding about what mold is, what it does, and how it can be effectively mitigated. We’ll help you address the concerns of your policyholders in a direct and compassionate way by providing a wider, fact-based perspective.

You will learn:

  • What mold contamination is and is not. Common myths & misunderstandings about the presence of mold in homes and how this may affect occupant health will be addressed.

  • What conditions cause visible mold to grow within a home, and how mold contamination may affect structural components (walls, carpeting & other flooring) and contents (furniture, personal belongings, etc.).

  • Why mold in homes and commercial buildings is most often a symptom of a structural “illness” or defect, and why this should be addressed prior to, or as a part of, mold cleaning and removal.

Additional topics:

  • Tempering fear with facts: how fear-based marketing has created outsized concern about mold contamination and mold illness, and how these often distract homeowners from addressing critical underlying issues.

  • Ethical conduct by restoration companies in mold contamination assessment and mitigation.

On the right top and bottom, the same attic areas are shown with greatly reduced suspected microbial/mold growth after PuroClean of North Spokane's licensed and certified mold mitigation experts finished attic mold removal.
