When a pipe burst in the attic of a Chula Vista home, it led to the collapse of the bedroom ceiling, spreading drywall and insulation across the room and saturating structural beams and laminate flooring with water. PuroClean of Bonita dispatched a crew led by Lead Technician Danny, who was quickly on the scene to manage this Category 2 water loss and restore the home to safety.
Danny and his team arrived to find significant damage. The first step was to clear the fallen debris, making the area safe for further assessment and restoration work. The team conducted thorough moisture readings, confirming that the structural beams were heavily saturated and that the laminate flooring had suffered extensive water damage.

Strategic Drying and Mitigation
To mitigate the water damage, we installed one dehumidifier and four air movers—two axial and two centrifugal—in the bedroom to accelerate the drying process. Plastic barriers were also erected to contain the affected area, preventing moisture from spreading throughout the home.
Over the next three days, our team regularly monitored the drying process to ensure optimal results. During this time, we coordinated with a subcontracted pack-out team to carefully move and store the contents of the bedroom, protecting the homeowner’s belongings from further damage and facilitating the restoration work.

Demolition and Thorough Cleaning
With the drying phase showing positive results, we proceeded with the demolition of unsalvageable materials. Remaining ceiling drywall, compromised insulation, and damaged laminate flooring were methodically removed. To ensure the safety of our technicians and maintain air quality, a HEPA air scrubber was operated throughout the demolition.
Following demolition, our team conducted a detailed cleaning of the exposed structure. This included removing every nail and screw from the framing and using HEPA vacuums to eliminate all dust and debris from the area. We then applied an anti-microbial spray to all affected surfaces to prevent the growth of mold and other microorganisms, followed by a thorough wipe down of the entire structure.
Final Drying and Restoration Preparation
Once cleaning was complete, we repositioned our drying equipment to address newly exposed areas, ensuring comprehensive moisture removal. By the following day, all materials had reached satisfactory drying standards, and the area was prepared for the necessary repairs to begin.
