Flow & Restore: PuroClean of Bonita Handles Kitchen Emergency in Chula Vista

Water Restoration

When a copper supply line in a Chula Vista home’s kitchen area burst, causing significant Category 2 water damage, PuroClean of Bonita was quick to take action. A crew led by one of our Technicians, Daniel, was dispatched to the scene to assess and address the damage. Upon arrival, Daniel’s team conducted a detailed inspection, identifying both the kitchen and living room, with laminate flooring having visible bubbles, as areas affected by the damage.

Understanding the urgency of addressing Category 2 water loss, which can contain significant contamination, we installed two dehumidifiers and six air movers throughout the affected areas. This equipment was crucial for reducing humidity and facilitating the drying process. We then erected plastic containments to isolate the affected areas and to better facilitate drying. Our equipment ran continuously over three days, with our crew returning daily to monitor the progress and prepare for the necessary demolition.

Careful Demolition and Preservation

With significant moisture reduction achieved, demolition of unsalvageable materials began. A HEPA air scrubber was employed throughout the demolition process to minimize dust and ensure a safe environment for our technicians. In the kitchen, we removed the dishwasher and affected cabinet boxes while shoring up the countertops with 2x4s to prevent unnecessary damage. We conducted a two-foot flood cut of the affected drywall and removed the wet insulation. Fortunately, the kitchen tiles could be dried in place and were preserved.

In the living room, we removed the baseboards and conducted a similar flood cut to remove small areas of affected drywall and insulation, followed by the removal of damaged laminate flooring.

Detailed Cleaning and Final Drying

Following demolition, our team focused on detail cleaning of the structure and affected materials. Every nail and screw was removed from the framing to ensure a thorough cleanup. We HEPA vacuumed every nook and cranny to eliminate dust and debris. All areas were then treated with an anti-microbial spray to clean and prevent future microbial growth, followed by a full wipe down of the structure.

With the cleaning complete, we repositioned our drying equipment to ensure complete dryness of the area, including newly exposed surfaces. By the next day, our rigorous monitoring confirmed that all materials had reached the required drying standards, and the home was ready for the final repairs. The swift response and effective handling of the water damage helped prevent further issues and prepared the home for a quick return to normalcy.
