Clogged AC Drain Line Leads To a Large Water Restoration in Fair Oaks Ranch

Water Restoration

Every homeowner has a checklist of maintenance tasks they need to perform to keep their property in pristine condition. Among those tasks should be to periodically inspect and flush your HVAC drain line to ensure it isn’t blocked. This line removes the water released when the evaporator in your AC unit converts refrigerant from a liquid to a gas. Over time, algae, dust, pet hair, and other debris can build up. We recently helped a client with restoration after extensive water damage affected their Fair Oaks Ranch home, caused by a clog in their AC line. Thankfully, they called PuroClean, and we were able to jump into action to help them and their property.

Ain’t No Ceiling High Enough, Ain’t No Drain Line Low…

We responded to the call from the client with haste. As it turns out, the client was an army sister of our Marketing Manager and Lead Technician, Audra. We always treat the people we work with as an extension of our family, but they really were family in this instance. We decided to help expedite the drying process with the client, which meant we’d be more aggressive with our tactics.

The house had tall ceilings, which presented a bit of a challenge to dry. However, we followed our plan to build a containment area around the damage. The clogged line was inside the ceiling on the first floor, adjacent to the floors on the second level. The wood floors on that level would also need to be thoroughly dried out. We set up a heater and a dehumidifier inside the containment area to help expedite the drying process. To further add to the drying-time speed, we also added floor drying mat systems to the combination of equipment.

We removed sections of the ceiling to access the moisture, which could be seen condensing on pipes. We then used some new equipment we recently purchased at the PuroClean Convention: the ReachMaster Pro. This tool allows us to take moisture readings on ceilings without requiring a ladder, perfect for this job. We had hoped to have the drying completed in 3 days, but the upstairs floors ended up needing slightly more time. Even though speed was the objective, naturally, we were happy to put in the extra time to do the job thoroughly.

In the end, we got the job done relatively quickly. The client was quite impressed with the thoroughness of our process and equipment, especially the containment area we built. She posted it to Facebook, as well as her neighborhood HOA page. We were just happy we could be there for our extended family in her time of need!
