Doylestown, Pennsylvania is a borough in Bucks County that’s known for its rich history, cultural scene, and vibrant downtown:
Doylestown was once a small village surrounded by farms, but has since developed into a thriving borough with a university, museums, and commuter rail. The borough’s origins can be traced back to William Doyle, an Irish tavern keeper who lived near Dyers Mill Road, which ran from Philadelphia to Easton.
Doylestown has been recognized by USA Today as having America’s “best small-town cultural scene”. It’s home to world-class museums, including the Mercer Museum and the James A. Michener Art Museum.
The borough also has a restored art-deco theater called the County Theater, which specializes in independent, foreign, and art films.
Doylestown’s downtown area has been called one of America’s “Distinctive Destinations” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Doylestown is located 35 miles north of Center City Philadelphia. It’s accessible by car via I-76, I-476, I-276, and Route 611, or by the SEPTA Lansdale/Doylestown Line Regional Rail.
