PuroClean’s Team of Water Damage Experts Helps Assisted Living Facility Following Burst Pipe

Water Restoration

Water damage is more common than many think for properties. Especially during the winter months when the temperatures drop enough to freeze pipes. If the pipes are not properly treated and are allowed to freeze, they can expand, leading to burst pipes, which leads to water damage.

We get these calls frequently every winter. Understanding how to avoid frozen pipes or how to thaw them if they do freeze can save you time, money, and significant stress. Check out our Frozen Pipe blog for some tips, and keep reading to see how we helped a local assisted living facility recover from a burst pipe.

Collapsed Ceiling, Hallway Obstacles, and More Create Challenges During Burst Pipe Water Mitigation

An assisted living facility in Syracuse recently experienced water damage stemming from a burst pipe, which caused multiple parts of the ceiling to collapse, with sheetrock and insulation falling to the ground. We were contacted by our large loss partners at Signal Restoration Services on a Sunday afternoon; we knew the severity of the situation and the importance of getting everything done quickly, so we rushed into action.

As soon as our crew arrived, we assessed the situation and began the mitigation process. We had to remove any water before setting up the drying equipment.

Setting up our equipment became a bit of a challenge. Normally we would set all of our equipment up in the hallway. Because we were helping an assisted living facility and the residents needed to be able to freely move in wheelchairs and with walkers or scooters, we couldn’t create any obstacles.

We came up with an idea to stagger the equipment and press it to one side of the hallway. This worked out perfectly for the residents.

Another challenge came up during the job. We weren’t able to demo until asbestos testing was done. We needed to demo in order to reach and dry all the areas affected by the water. If all water and moisture are not thoroughly removed and dried, it leaves a property susceptible to mold damage.

Waiting for the testing to be completed slowed down the drying process, but safety always comes first, so we were patient and eventually got everything done!

In spite of the delays, the water damage remediation from the burst pipe was completed in just eight days. Reconstruction was set up as well. Our crew really came together to get the job done as efficiently and effectively as possible so the residents could safely return to their normal lives.
