Biohazard remediation is a critical service in property restoration, and at PuroClean of Ft. Lauderdale South, we’re proud to enhance our expertise in this area. From June 7 – 10, PuroClean hosted its yearly convention right here in our own backyard at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood.
Except for 2020, which was hosted virtually instead due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is a major annual event that gives franchises like us a chance to gather together, discuss new ideas, meet with vendors, celebrate the past year, and look forward to how we can accomplish more in the future as “ONE TEAM”. This event fosters collaboration and innovation within the property restoration sector, with a focus on advancing biohazard remediation practices.
At the convention, our franchise owner, Carlos Niemes, was recognized for being a member of the first-ever class of PuroClean franchise owners to take and pass the Microbial Warrior Biohazard Remediation Training Program. This program is a 3 1/2 day intensive training course distinctive in the industry. During this instruction, Carlos and the rest of the class honed their skills for the comprehensive response and remediation to situations and structures that are contaminated or suspected to be contaminated with biohazardous materials.

Key Skills Acquired in the Microbial Warriors Class
By being part of this program, Carlos is able to bring a refined skillset back to PuroClean of Ft. Lauderdale South and tackle more comprehensive forms of biohazard remediation. Carlos not only learned the techniques to properly handle pathogens, hoarding, crime scenes, human waste, and unexpected death but was also required to confront difficult human elements and the psychology that goes with work like this as a part of the training.
These techniques include essential processes such as risk assessment, containment using HEPA filtration, decontamination with antimicrobial agents, and proper disposal of biohazardous waste, all aligned with industry standards.
To provide further insight, here are some key skills covered:
- Pathogen Handling: Methods for identifying and neutralizing microbial contaminants, including bacteria and viruses, through environmental sampling and targeted cleaning protocols.
- Hoarding and Crime Scene Remediation: Strategies for safe removal of accumulated materials and evidence preservation in sensitive environments.
- Psychological Aspects: Training on empathetic communication and support for affected individuals during traumatic scenarios.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adherence to guidelines from organizations like the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for bloodborne pathogens (29 CFR 1910.1030)
This skillset is not one that anyone wishes to have to use, but those who can perform these services do serve a very important role in the restoration industry and our communities as a whole.
