When multiple window leaks caused significant Category 2 water damage in a North Park condo, PuroClean of Clairemont swiftly stepped in to mitigate the damage. A team led by Technician Daniel was dispatched to assess the extent of the intrusion and implement an effective restoration plan.
Upon arrival, our team discovered water damage affecting three distinct areas of the home: two bedrooms and the dining room. The affected materials included drywall, insulation, floor planks, and carpet. Understanding the urgency of the situation, we moved quickly to prevent further deterioration and salvage as many materials as possible.

Containment and Drying Phase
To optimize the drying process, we deployed industrial-grade equipment throughout the impacted areas. A total of three dehumidifiers and six air movers were strategically placed to extract moisture efficiently. Additionally, we installed plastic barriers to isolate the affected areas from the rest of the home, preventing further contamination and improving the drying environment.
Over the next three days, our team returned daily to monitor progress, ensuring the equipment was operating effectively. With significant moisture reduction achieved, we prepared for the next phase: targeted demolition of unsalvageable materials.
Demolition and Structural Drying
As part of our demolition efforts, we set up a HEPA air scrubber in the affected areas to minimize dust and maintain air quality throughout the process. We began in the dining room, laying down protective plastic sheeting for easier cleanup. After marking precise cut lines on the walls with chalk, we used a KettSaw to remove large sections of saturated drywall. Once the drywall was cleared, we extracted wet insulation and removed the affected floor planks.
A similar process was followed in the bedrooms. After setting protective plastic, we marked and cut out the damaged drywall, removed the compromised insulation, and extracted the wet carpet padding. Fortunately, the carpet itself could be dried in place, preserving the flooring wherever possible.

Detailed Cleaning and Microbial Prevention
With the demolition phase complete, we shifted our focus to deep cleaning and preparing the structure for repairs. Every nail and screw was removed from the framing, followed by a thorough HEPA vacuuming of all surfaces to eliminate dust and debris. We then treated all affected areas with an anti-microbial spray to prevent future microbial growth, finishing with a comprehensive wipe-down to ensure a clean environment.

Final Drying and Restoration Readiness
Once the area was fully cleaned, we repositioned our drying equipment to target any remaining moisture within the newly exposed areas. By the following day, all materials had reached industry-standard drying levels, marking the successful completion of our mitigation efforts. The condo was now ready for the next step—repairs and restoration.
