We all handle bad news differently. Some handle it better than others. Five months ago, a convicted felon, moments after being sentenced, decided to try and run away from his problems. He fled from the courtroom, narrowly slipping through the police officers’ grasp, and jumped over a fourth floor railing. The man survived the fall with some broken bones and an additional charge. Blood Cleanup Executed During Busy Day Full of Court Sessions

In late May, we were called to the Franklin County Courthouse in downtown Columbus for the blood cleanup. Our technicians responded quickly because we knew the importance of removing the biohazard waste from the atrium as soon as possible, as the courts were still in session. Our crew even beat the ambulance!

The ambulance eventually arrived and the defendant was taken to the hospital, while the Bureau of Crime Investigations (BCI) began an inquiry of the events. We patiently waited for BCI to finish their job so we could begin ours. Throughout the chaos of the situation, the courthouse continued to function as normal, with people moving about the building. The number of people in close proximity created a challenge, but our stellar technicians overcame it by working quickly and efficiently.

As BCI was conducting their investigation, we had to work together with their officers so we could both complete our tasks. Our technicians did a wonderful job getting to the scene and getting the job done. There were several challenges, but our team came together and performed the blood cleanup empathetically and expertly.
