One of our core values is to contribute to the fibers of our community. We mostly do this by helping real people get through disasters and get back to their lives. But, we recently did a job that lit a different kind of fire under us because it displayed the power of kindness in the community. This is the story of the mold outbreak in the Vineyard Church and how an entire community banded together to help us mitigate the problem.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
The Vineyard Church is led by Pastors Akwasi and Millie Boaky, who were pastors in Africa before coming to Columbus. They’re admired for their leadership of the church as well as for building a community among members with positive values instruction that will help everyone grow together!
Their church was affected by mold damage and they called us in to mitigate the outbreak so they could safely host their congregation. When we arrived, we assumed this would be a typical mold job, where we would evaluate the damage and then proceed to restore the property. But, as we all know, things often don’t go as expected.
Church and other community members got together and volunteered to join our team to help! We were blown away by their gesture. We offered PuroClean shirts and hazmat suits to all of the volunteers, and our team helped instruct them in the basics of the process of cleaning mold safely. All of our employees did the hazardous work, but the community helped lend a hand with tearing walls down, cleaning up trash, and more.
It’s fairly unusual to be assisted by a community like this but we were very proud to be able to help this church help itself. They have clearly built a strong sense of togetherness and community, and we were incredibly humbled to be welcomed in by them and to help them get back into their church safely.
