Rolling in the Deep: Homeowner Experiences Severe Water Damage

Water Restoration

Water damage can arise from many factors, including floods, leaking pipes, and overflowing toilets and bathtubs. Unbeknownst to many, condensation due to high humidity can also lead to damage.

Depending on the severity of the water damage, the affected area may need to be dried out, disinfected, and even repaired or replaced. No matter what led to the saturation, the PuroClean Property Restoration Experts team is here to assist you with your property restoration needs. Our trained professionals will ensure your home or business receives the care it needs to return to its pre-loss condition in no time.

A Catastrophic Loss

Recently, our team received a call from an independent insurance adjuster whose client experienced a water loss that sat unattended for over three months.

Our technicians uncovered considerable damage to most of the floors, kitchen cabinets, and bathrooms when we completed our assessment.

According to the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) standards, a restoration of this magnitude is a category three loss. A category three loss considers the length of time the structure is wet and the extent of the damage, both of which were extensive for this job.

Mending the Mess

To remedy the damage, our team got to work immediately. Our technicians utilized moisture meters to check moisture levels throughout the affected areas to determine what needed restoration.

Our experienced technicians performed a flood cut to affected areas in the home. A flood cut involves removing sections of drywall, typically around 12 to 18 inches above the highest water level. To do so, we removed all lower cabinetry and vanities to access the wet drywall behind them. With those out of our way, we wanted to avoid missing affected drywall; the undetected moisture could lead to mold growth, creating further issues.

With the drywall out of the way, we used our specialized PuroClean equipment, like air movers and dehumidifiers, to dry the area thoroughly. As a category three loss, the drying process required multiple sessions to ensure no moisture remained.

Although the category three loss was severe, our crew finished the dry-out in one week. Our team’s high-level skillset, professionalism, and diligence contributed to a successful water damage restoration. Keep up the great work, everyone!
