On Monday morning, a man driving on the northwest side of Chicago was fatally shot and crashed into a building. With this tragedy, the news that the passenger not only survived but is in good condition as well, is a relief.
Later that day, after the authorities documented the crime scene and the victim was taken to the hospital, the property manager called us to board up the damage.
The building had a roughly 8-foot tall hole located adjacent to the street where the shooting happened. While the building itself and its interior sustained damage, boarding up the exposure was the priority so we could secure the site.
Our crew built a frame to brace the opening in the wall and add temporary support where it was most needed. Once the frame was put into place, we used plywood on both the interior and exterior walls to provide double the layers of protection. We completed this process not even 24 hours after the incident.
We want to express our most sincere condolences to the victims and the families involved. We will never forget that a loss of life happened first and foremost. While we can restore the property, we can never replace a life.
