This past weekend, PuroClean of Central Southwest Houston had the honor of sponsoring and participating in the Soaring Kidz Charity Basketball Tournament, an annual event hosted and organized by Mark Rafail of Rafail Insurance Agency. The tournament brought together local businesses, families, and community members in a shared mission — to uplift and empower children with special needs through the joy of sports.
A Community Where Every Child Belongs
Soaring Kidz is a Houston-based nonprofit dedicated to providing year-round sports programs for children ages 4–14 with special needs. The organization “aims to provide access to recreational, group, and individual exercise to maximize each child’s potential for movement,” creating opportunities for inclusion, mobility, and teamwork.
“Soaring Kidz is open to every child and teen from diverse backgrounds, each facing unique challenges associated with physical, social, or cognitive disabilities” every child is “embraced within our inclusive community.”
For Mark Rafail, this mission holds special meaning. “My connection to Soaring Kidz is deeply personal,” he shared. “I attended the same church as the organization’s founder, Mina Iskander, and used to volunteer. I wanted to find ways to contribute beyond volunteering. Supporting Soaring Kidz lets me bring together my passion for the organization, my love for basketball, and my appreciation for my clients.”
Sports and Support — All Year Long
Mark Rafail emphasizes that “there really isn’t another organization that provides year-round programs for special needs children outside of the Special Olympics. Soaring Kidz creates opportunities for children to stay active, build mobility, and experience teamwork and camaraderie — the same reasons other children play. It also gives parents the rewarding experience of watching their kids from the sidelines. Our goal is to raise both funds and awareness so we can continue to grow, expand our staff, and eventually open a dedicated facility.”
