Frozen Pipes From February Storm Floods Home

The state of Texas is still dealing with the effects of the massive snowstorms that happened in February. And while we have been hard at work with the restoration effort, there is still more work to be done. One of the more recent jobs we did had one of the most common types of damage that we saw happen with the storm, water damage. It also showed the large extent of issues that are associated with it.

Restoring a San Antonio Home After a Burst Pipe

PuroClean of Boerne was called to a house in San Antonio for water damage. Like many homes during the winter storm, this one suffered from a burst pipe. When water freezes, it expands in volume, often resulting in the pipes rupturing. These types of incidents result in water leaking inside walls and throughout the surrounding areas.

The water damage affected the spare bedroom, the office, a hallway, and the master closet. We had to remove the carpet and carpet pad in the closet, office, and spare bedroom that was completely saturated. We also had to make cuts to the ceiling and drywall. 

In the hallway, we had to dry the engineered hardwood floor. There was a 2-foot-by-2-foot section of this floor that gave us some difficulty drying. We used our innovative floor drying mat system and built a containment tent to blow warm air into the floor to help dry it out. However, it ended up being more cost-effective to replace that small portion of the floor rather than take several more days to dry it.

We completed this job within four days due to the flooring needing an extra day. Our son, Caleb, who was on his spring break, came along with our team to help with the job.
