AMC’s The Walking Dead was filming scenes for their upcoming season in Powhatan, VA. We were hopeful the resolution of the conflict would be that the heroes would call in PuroClean to fight off the zombies. Naturally, our superstar crew would use our biohazard cleanup training to sanitize the bodily fluids and triumphantly save humanity. However, the writers weren’t the biggest fan of our pitch and alas, only offered us a guest appearance on-set. But, hey, that’s show biz, baby!
Lights! Camera! Action!
They say the stage crew is just as important as the actors when it comes to a theater production. The production studio for the TV show thought our talents would be best suited for support behind the scenes. And, while we would have loved to be the stars of the show, we wholeheartedly agreed with their assessment.
Our job was to be on standby in case of an emergency during filming. We also prepared the house for safety for the actors and crew, as well as encapsulated the walls and ceilings from lead paint. Without spoiling the plot of the episode(s) that were being filmed, certain practical effects were required. Should these effects backfire or go out of control, our services would be put to use to restore the set.
The shoot began at 8 pm that night and lasted until 8 am the following morning. Our team was invited to dinner with the cast and crew on-set, where we got to mingle with the production crew and actors. We had a great time, especially since the disaster restoration industry rarely yields such all-around positive experiences like this one.
