Coronavirus Cleanup for an International Freight Carrier

Coronavirus has created new and interesting opportunities (and necessities) for biohazard cleanups. As a result, PuroClean Disaster Services recently conducted coronavirus sterilization for an international freight carrier, including both a hangar and cargo plane!

Cleaning a Cargo Plane of COVID-19

This job stands out in our gallery of biohazard cleanup jobs for a few reasons: the location, the size, and the time restrictions. First, it was an exciting challenge to determine the full scope of work. Secondly, the hangar area and cargo plane combined resulted in a work area of over 17,000 square feet. And finally, we only had four hours to complete the job.

Our crew began their work in the hangar. They applied anti-bacterial solution to all offices, storage rooms, restrooms, parts rooms, and to all the doors in the hangar, and to all of the equipment in the hanger. Then, the technicians wiped down all high-touch surfaces that could have been contaminated by touch after 20 minutes of dwell time. We used different disposable rags for each area so as not to cross-contaminate any stations. We finished the area by removing all trash and properly disposing of it off-site.

Next, our crew moved on to clean the cargo plane. The biggest challenge was meeting the timetable to complete this job.  Not having cleaned a cargo plane before, we were not sure how long it would really take.  However, unsurprisingly, our top notch technicians happily rose to the unique challenge!

The team applied anti-bacterial treatment to all accessible surfaces in the aircraft, excluding the cockpit. Then, they wiped all doors and high-touch, potentially-contaminated areas. Finally, they completed the task by wiping down the conveyor belt buggies and storage areas.

The results truly pleased the client. Their feedback praised the team as being efficient and thorough in completing our tasks.  And, they told us that they would use us again in the future. It was great to succeed in meeting the tight timetable for the client and to add “freight carriers” to our repertoire.
