Commercial Water Loss from Leaky Gym Pool Affects Multiple Stories of Building

On Monday, December 13, 2021, PuroClean of Chicago received a call about a high-end gym in Oak Park, IL, just south of Austin Gardens, with a leaking third-floor swimming pool. The leak began dripping down into the main floor of the gym, where a basketball court and cardio and weight lifting equipment were located. From there, it continued its way down to the street level of the building, affecting the restaurant, bar, and offices located beneath the gym.

Our team arrived on site within three hours of the call to assess the situation. We began creating a plan and drew up an estimate for the mitigation and drying process. The proposal was approved quickly, and our commercial water loss work began the next day, Tuesday, December 14.

We were initially hired through a referral from Signal Restoration Services to do just the mitigation work for the bottom floor of the building. During the process, however, Steven Martinez, VP of Business Development and Sales, spoke with the gym manager who decided to extend our scope of work to the other two affected floors. This not only increased our workload but more importantly, allowed us to work from the source of the water damage. Since sustained water damage can lead to more damage and even mold, it’s always best to tackle the source of the problem for the best results.

It took about a week to complete the minor demolition and thorough drying of the affected areas. This is a massive job that our crews are still hard at work completing. Thankfully for the gym, the damage is not severe enough to shut their doors, and they have been open the entire time we’ve been working.
