PuroClean SuperHero Day – Tommy “Big Tom” and Sabrina Anderson

April 22, 2025, we had the incredible honor of celebrating PuroClean SuperHero Day—a night dedicated to recognizing the everyday champions who make our community a better place. Hosted at Big Tom’s, the evening was filled with gratitude, laughter, and the spirit of giving. In a special moment, we presented a $1,000 donation to Big Tom’s Community Table, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to kickstart this year’s efforts to feed families during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This year’s PuroClean Superheroes? None other than Tommy and Sabrina Anderson—remarkable leaders who not only serve their community with heart but also pour generosity into their own team every single day. For the past seven years Tom and Sabrina have been serving free meals to the community during Thanksgiving and Christmas. During Christmas they give toys to children who come by Big Tom’s. For most of these years, The Andersons have given all of this back to the community out of their own pockets. In 2025, along with community engagement this amounted to 4000 plates and 800 toys in conjunction with he Salvation Army. Their selflessness and service embody everything SuperHero Day stands for, and we’re proud to stand behind them. This night was made even more special as Mayor Kevin Brooks was in attendance to award a proclamation that April 22, 2025 was Big Tom Day, and he also gave Tom and Sabrina a key to the city of Cleveland.

Tommy “Big Tom” and Sabrina Anderson are Cleveland natives and owners of Big Tom’s Backyard Grill and Bar. They are high school sweethearts who met and have been together since their time at Bradley Central High School in Cleveland. Their first date was at Jenkins Deli at the Gazebo table and, serendipitously, they operate Big Tom’s in the old Jenkins Deli location. The gazebo table is still there as well.

They have three children, Logan, Ethan, and Ariel, who all have or currently work in the family restaurant. Big Tom’s was a dream of the Andersons’ after Tommy retired from railroad work in 2017. By 2018, the opportunity to purchase the restaurant appeared and the Andersons pounced. The transition from retired railroad family to restaurant owners was not without struggles however. By 2021, the pressures of running a restaurant without experience started affecting the Andersons’ family, marriage and finances. Big Tom’s health was suffering due to stress. Sabrina, who is diagnosed with MS, was afraid she was losing her husband. As the pressure and debt mounted, celebrity chef Robert Irvine showed up and filmed an episode of Restaurant Impossible for the Food Network centered on revitalizing Big Tom’s in July 2021. It worked. Within three months of re-opening, sales were up 50% and the health, family and financial pressures were alleviated.

We want to give a special thank you to our partners What’s Happening Cleveland with The Alderman Group led by Dennis Purvis for all the great assistance in making this special night such a wonderful honor for Tom and Sabrina Anderson.
