Fire Damage Restoration in Denver: From Devastation to Renewal

Fire Restoration

When a fire strikes a home, the impact goes far beyond visible damage. Soot, smoke odor, and water used to extinguish the flames can affect every part of a property, even areas far from the fire’s origin. At PuroClean of Central Denver, we recently assisted a homeowner whose property suffered significant fire damage, helping them recover their home safely and efficiently.

The Fire Incident

The affected areas included the kitchen (100%), living room (50%), attic (50%), bedrooms (20%), and hallway (10%). These spaces experienced varying levels of fire, smoke, and soot damage, requiring a detailed plan to restore the property to its pre-loss condition.

Our Restoration Process

Our team began by removing the insulation in the attic, which had been heavily affected by smoke and soot. Approximately 6x10x3 square feet of insulation was removed using specialized equipment to ensure safety and thoroughness. An Air Filtration Device (AFD) was used during the entire removal process (over three days) to maintain clean air quality and reduce airborne contaminants.

Once the insulation removal was completed, we proceeded with the structural demolition and cleaning phase, addressing damaged materials and preparing the space for reconstruction.

In the main bedroom, our technicians removed the carpet and padding, performed a complete HEPA vacuuming to remove soot and fine particles, and cleaned both the structure and contents. Due to the large number of small personal items, cleaning required special care to separate salvageable belongings from non-recoverable debris.

To eliminate smoke odors, we used ozone treatment in the affected rooms. Ozone is a proven method for neutralizing lingering odors caused by smoke and soot, ensuring a fresh and clean indoor environment once the restoration is complete.

Common Steps in a Fire Cleanup

Every fire damage project is unique, but most follow a similar process to ensure proper recovery:

  1. Assessment and Safety Inspection: Identifying affected areas and ensuring the structure is safe to enter.
  2. Securing the Property: Boarding up windows or doors if necessary.
  3. Water Extraction & Drying: Removing any water left from firefighting efforts.
  4. Soot and Smoke Removal: Using HEPA vacuums, sponges, and cleaning agents to remove contaminants.
  5. Odor Elimination: Using ozone machines or hydroxyl generators to neutralize persistent smells.
  6. Structural Cleaning & Repairs: Rebuilding and restoring the damaged areas to their original state.
