Burst Line in the Ice Maker is a Real Ice Breaker

Water Restoration

Many refrigerators have ice makers conveniently built into them. This quality of life improvement is something many homeowners take for granted, but it can cause issues if it is forgotten about. Like most instruments, consistent maintenance is required to keep appliances running at optimal performance. We recently traveled to Waldorf, Maryland, to help a retiree with flood damage. The supply line to her ice maker burst, and water damage impacted much of the home’s first floor.

Time to Meet Your (Ice) Maker

Ice maker waterlines can often get clogged with mineral deposits. If the water flow is obstructed, the ice machine will eventually struggle. As a result, it may wear out quicker and produce less ice than it should. In other instances, like in this one, clogs can lead to leaks, resulting in water damage to the refrigerator and the space around it.

The leak caused flooding across the first-level floors. First, our team identified the affected areas and immediately worked to contain the damage. We then set up air scrubbers to begin the process of removing excess moisture from the air. This step is pertinent in preventing mold growth.

We then moved our focus to remove the laminate floors, which had become saturated with water. Once we removed and discarded them, the crew dried the subfloor and reinstalled new laminate floors on top. The client was grateful for our crew’s knowledge and assistance. She wrote us a beautiful Excellent Service Endorsement, calling us “very professional,” and stated that she would recommend us to her friends and family.
