New Hope is a Bucks County borough on the west bank of the Delaware River, across from Lambertville, New Jersey. It began as a ferry crossing. John Wells ran the ferry and a tavern here in the early 1700s, and John Coryell bought the ferry in 1764, giving the village the name Coryell’s Ferry during the American Revolution. According to the Library of Congress survey of the site, the ferry marked the end of the Old York Road.

Benjamin Parry completed the Parry Mansion around 1784 and started several mills on the river. After his Hope Mill burned in 1790, it was rebuilt as the New Hope Mill, which gave the town its name. One of Parry’s grist mills stood where the Bucks County Playhouse is today. New Hope was incorporated as a borough on April 26, 1837, and the Delaware Canal runs through town, with the Locktender’s House at Lock 11.

That riverside history means many New Hope properties sit close to the river, the canal, or the creek, and the town’s shops, galleries, inns, and restaurants share the same exposure as its homes.

Getting to New Hope From Our Plumstead Township Base

Our shop is in Plumstead Township, north of Doylestown along the Route 611 corridor. New Hope is also in Bucks County, on its eastern edge along the Delaware River, so we stay within the same county.

Several numbered roads serve New Hope. US Route 202 is the most prominent highway, running northeast to southwest along the northwestern edge of the borough. PA 32 follows Main Street through the center of town, running north and south parallel to the river. PA 179 runs east and west through the center via Bridge Street and crosses the Delaware on the New Hope–Lambertville Free Bridge. PA 232 begins at PA 32 in the southern part of the borough and heads southwest along Windy Bush Road.

Just north of town in Solebury Township, the New Hope–Lambertville Toll Bridge also crosses the river.

The Delaware Canal also runs through New Hope, and Aquetong Creek forms a millpond and waterfall near the Bucks County Playhouse before reaching the river. During river floods, we plan around road closures.

We don’t publish a fixed route or promise an arrival time, since traffic, weather, and the job vary. When you call, we confirm your exact address and what happened.

Wherever you are in the borough, the restoration services New Hope property owners need are a phone call away. Call Now for Fast Service at (267) 454-2200.

River Floods, Storms, and Winter: What Drives New Hope Damage

The Delaware River is the biggest factor in New Hope’s property damage risk. The National Weather Service tracks the river at the New Hope–Lambertville gauge, where flood stage is 13 feet, moderate flooding begins at 15 feet, and major flooding begins at 16 feet.

The record crest there is 24.16 feet, set on August 20, 1955. Then came a run of three major floods in just three years: 16.50 feet on September 19, 2004, from the remnants of Hurricane Ivan, 19.60 feet on April 4, 2005, and 19.08 feet on June 29, 2006. The river reached major flood stage again at 16.14 feet on September 8, 2011, according to the Weather Service’s historical flood list.

River flooding behaves differently from a flash flood, and cleanup takes longer. Water often rises over hours or days, then can sit in lower levels before slowly receding. It leaves behind silt and mud that hold bacteria and moisture. River flood water is Category 3, so carpet pad, drywall, insulation, and other porous materials usually have to come out, and every surface needs cleaning and sanitizing before drying starts.

Heavy rain also causes local problems away from the river, even when the Delaware stays within its banks. Storm water from surrounding hills can run toward low spots and back up drains. Gutters overflow, water pools against foundations, and sump pumps can fail when the power goes out.

Winter brings frozen pipes, especially in seasonal homes and rentals left empty. Ice dams can push meltwater into attics before a ceiling stain shows. Furnaces running hard can cause puff-backs that coat rooms in oily soot.

Summer humidity slows drying, especially in lower levels near the river, and damp materials can start growing mold within days if nobody measures moisture.

We follow IICRC practices: stop the source, extract the water, clean by Category, and dry to documented readings. For restoration services New Hope can rely on after the river drops, Call Now for Fast Service at (267) 454-2200.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers for New Hope homeowners, landlords, and business owners

The National Weather Service tracks the river at the New Hope–Lambertville gauge, where flood stage is 13 feet, moderate is 15 feet, and major is 16 feet. Those numbers describe river level, not your building. How a given crest affects you depends on your building’s ground height and location. Learn how your property fared in past crests, such as 19.60 feet in April 2005, and follow forecasts. If water reaches your building, call us once it’s safe, and we’ll start extraction and cleanup.

Often, depending on the item and the damage. Don’t wipe wet paintings, rub soot off framed works, or try to dry antique furniture with heat, which can cause cracking and warping. Move pieces to a dry, cool area if it’s safe, and photograph everything. We pack out contents, document their condition, and clean what can be cleaned. For valuable or delicate pieces, we coordinate with specialized conservators and appraisers. Our detailed inventory supports insurance claims for collections, galleries, and family heirlooms.

Yes, we can work with you remotely. Tell us how to get access, such as a property manager, cleaner, or lockbox. We send you photos and daily moisture readings so you can see the damage without traveling. We coordinate with your insurer, keep you updated as drying progresses, and give you documentation for cancelled bookings and lost rental income claims. If guests are staying when damage happens, let them know to leave the affected area and give them our number.

Not until they’re inspected. When flood water reaches a furnace, boiler, water heater, or electrical panel, it can damage controls, burners, and wiring and leave silt inside. Turning them on too soon can create fire, shock, or gas hazards. Keep the power and gas off to all flooded equipment and have a licensed electrician, plumber, or HVAC technician check it. Many units need replacement. Meanwhile, we extract the water, clean and sanitize, and dry the structure so repairs can begin.

Yes. When a home or business needs major work after a flood or fire, moving contents out protects them and gives our team room to work. We inventory each item with photos, pack it carefully, and move it to secure storage. Items that can be cleaned, such as furniture, textiles, and electronics, get cleaned before they come back. Items that can’t be saved are documented for your insurer before disposal. When repairs are finished, we bring everything back to you.
