What we know about how Covid-19 Spreads

The Spreading of Person-to-Person

It has been publicly announced that the spread of COVID-19 is caused by individuals who are in close contact with each other (within about 6 feet), through tiny respiratory droplets that are blown into the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The tiny droplets end up in the mouths or noses of others who are nearby. It is also possible for these droplets to be inhaled into the lungs. This is why COVID-19 is believed to spread most prevalently from person-to-person.

Spread from contact with contaminated surfaces or objects

It may be possible for an individual to get the COVID-19 virus after touching an area with the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or eyes. The CDC confirms the possibility of the disease spreading in this manner.

Prioritizing Safety

While Puroclean is working on biohazard removal, special focus and adherence to safety, industry, and OSHA standards is very important. Also, our biohazard removal is addressed by technicians who will wear appropriate protective equipment, also known as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). PuroClean will section off the areas to undergo the cleaning process, using caution so as to protect customers, their families, and PuroClean employees.

Personal Protective Equipment

First, wearing proper PPE is a requirement. Our cleanup technicians wear a full-face respirator to protect them against airborne bacteria coming in contact with the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, or eyes. PuroClean professionals also wear Biohazard protective coveralls, shoe covers, and Nitrile gloves.

Our Hospital-grade and EPA-registered Products

Our industry certified technicians use EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectant products, including towelettes, with pharmaceutical ingredients that meet OSHA’s bloodborne pathogen standard against diseases like COVID-19 and other disease-causing bacteria, viruses, tuberculosis, mold, and mildew.

The Coronavirus Cleaning Materials

The typical cleaning materials used by PuroClean professionals include:

  1. Portable carpet cleaners for carpets and upholstery
  2. Mops and buckets
  3. Trigger or Pressure sprayers
  4. Trash bags and tape for sealing
  5. Microfiber wipes, brushes and cleaning sponges

Procedures for the Application for Disinfectant

Depending on the circumstances, Puroclean technicians apply hospital grade and EPA-registered disinfectants using three methods.

  1. Spray application: An electric or pump sprayer is used for this process. If the surface or item is visibly free of soil and dirt, this application is usually the preferred method.
  2. Disinfecting towelettes: If a surface or item has visible light soil or dirt our preferred method is disinfecting towelettes. These are used along with a pump or electric sprayer on locations or items that are visibly lacking soil and dirt.
  3. Microfiber pads/wipes: Typically, these are used as an alternative to using disinfecting towelettes – these are used along with appropriate products in a spray bottle that is appropriately labeled.

Process for Cleaning Porous Surfaces and Materials

Synthetic carpets, rugs, curtains, and upholstery – Our technicians will either clean these items manually or, for machine cleaning, they will apply approved disinfectants for textiles and carpets and then remove stains where applicable.

Natural fabrics, rugs, curtains, and upholstery must be cleaned in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

To disinfect clothing, linens and other personal fabrics, the infected articles should be laundered per label instructions. IMPORTANT NOTE: Washing machines should be disinfected after washing soiled materials.

Tanned leather materials – We clean these material items by wiping the surfaces with a lightly moistened cloth and disinfectant sprays or disinfectant towelettes.

Nu-buck and suede leather material: These materials are to be cleaned in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Concrete, cinder block, wood, plywood, and oriented strand board (OSB) – Cleansed by applying the disinfectant solution directly onto the items.

HVAC system – External ductwork surfaces, grills, grates, and registers should be cleaned with a disinfectant solution. HVAC internal duct surfaces and components should be cleaned in accordance with industry instructions by a licensed HVAC contractor or NADCA certified duct cleaner.

Our Deodorization Process

Normally, when the affected location has been cleaned and starts to dry, the odors go away. Our trained professionals will decide, however, whether any further deodorization is required.

Our Promise

We understand that a biohazard event can be sensitive and stressful and must be handled with empathy, care and discretion. PuroClean restoration professionals are fully licensed and certified to follow all applicable laws and standards to remediate incidents safely.

RESPECTFUL: Our biohazard cleaning technicians treat every affected area and item professionally and respectfully, as if it were our own.

HIGHEST STANDARDS: PuroClean uses products that are approved to provide protection, prevent contamination and reduce the risk of spreading dangerous pathogens.

ADVANCED CLEANING SYSTEM: PuroClean RapidDefense is an effective procedure that is used to start the sanitization process of public places in the most effective and safe way possible. Our process uses disinfectants that help prevent virus and other pathogen-based contamination in areas close by.

Proper Disinfection and Cleaning of Equipment

Before PuroClean technicians vacate a property that had been contaminated by the coronavirus, they will completely clean all tools, PPE, and cleaning items that were used during the coronavirus cleanup, using a hospital-grade, EPA-registered disinfectant.

Per the CDC, Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces are the recommended actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, like coronavirus. Since any surface can be re-contaminated after cleaning, and because the coronavirus is also spread person-to-person, PuroClean’s services are not guaranteed to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html) for more information regarding coronavirus, its spread, and prevention.
