Attic Mold

Mold Restoration

Mold can happen anywhere in the home, it can even happen in your attic. You don’t always have to have water damage for mold to grow. About 60% of mold issues in the attic are from exhaust fans due to the bathroom or dryer vent not being properly ducted out of the roof. It’s hard to know when and if you have mold in your attic because we aren’t always in it.

The appliances need to be vented to the outside to ensure moisture does not go to the attic. Your dryer, kitchen, and bathroom vents should always blow the air to the outside. Your attic ventilation system could become overwhelmed and may not be able to eliminate the resulting moisture.

There are actions you can take to prevent mold in your attic:

One step that can prevent attic mold is proper ventilation. The moisture levels in your attic increase without proper ventilation. This is particularly important in winter when warm air rises to the ceiling. It enters the attic and condenses on the cold surfaces. Your attic should have adequate ventilation so that moisture created by condensation can escape. Also make sure your attic vents (soffit, ridge, and gable-mounted vents) are not covered with insulation. There are many ways to improve attic ventilation, so be sure to consult a specialist.

AnotherĀ  step that can prevent mold in attic is adequate insulation. Attic insulation controls the temperature and moisture levels. In winter, attic temperature should be at or near the outside air temperature. Have your attic floor properly insulated to minimize the air transfer between the living are and the attic. Ensure that the insulation of other areas and surfaces in to the attic, such as heating ducts, are also in good shape.

Mold shouldn’t be a scary word,it can be taken care of by professionals. PuroClean has those professionals to take care of it and to make it worry free. If you believe you have mold or see mold in your attic, let the professionals know.
