Each year on National Superhero Day (April 28), PuroClean Franchise Owners across the country take time to recognize the real-life heroes making a difference in their communities. Through the PuroClean Cares® initiative, local teams identify and honor individuals who go above and beyond in service, compassion, and leadership.

From educators to first responders, business owners to nonprofit leaders, this year’s honorees were celebrated with surprise events, community recognition, and heartfelt appreciation.

Here are the 2025 National Superhero Day honorees and the local PuroClean teams that honored them:

Superhero: Harrison Smith – Long Island Cares

Harrison Smith was honored for his tireless efforts in the fight against food insecurity. As a dedicated advocate at Long Island Cares, Harrison helps ensure families in need have access to nutritious meals, while also leading the organization’s disaster relief initiatives. Caroline Bonnen, Franchise Owner of PuroClean in Greenlawn, NY, hosted a moving surprise ceremony on April 27 to honor Harrison’s impact on their community.

Superhero: Joe Matuscak – Riveon Mental Health and Recovery

Honored at a Chamber of Commerce event on May 13, Joe Matuscak was recognized for his advocacy and leadership in mental health by PuroClean in Elyria, OH, Franchise Owners Trey and Janice Bell. The event was a surprise for Joe, honoring him for his outstanding impact in the region.

PuroClean of Stroudsburg & Saylorsburg in Gilbert, PA

Superhero: Fire Chief Clifford Opelt – Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Company

Chief Opelt was celebrated by Franchise Owner Avi Sohal of PuroClean in Gilbert, PA, for 15 years of service and leadership in their local volunteer fire department. The team at PuroClean hosted a backyard BBQ in his honor and presented a $1,000 donation to support the fire company’s continued work in the community.

Superhero: Maurice Leary – Step It Up Camp!

Maurice Leary was recognized for his work empowering youth from all backgrounds with life skills, mentorship, and support. Craig and Jenny Hawkins, Franchise Owners of PuroClean in Woodinville, WA, highlighted Maurice’s positive impact and dedication to helping kids thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

PuroClean Property Damage Experts in Cleveland, TN

Superheroes: “Big Tom” & Sabrina Anderson – Big Tom’s Bar and Grill

This dynamic duo was honored for their consistent support of the local community, including providing free meals during holidays and times of crisis. PuroClean Franchise Owners in Cleveland, TN, Charles and Sharon Atkins, donated $1,000 to support “Big Tom” and Sabrina’s  mission and help them continue to serve those in need.

Superhero: Paul Rocco – National Operations Director, PuroClean

Paul Rocco was recognized by his own PuroClean team, Franchise Owners Keegan Trudgen and Tim Lohse, for his leadership across multiple states. From hurricanes to wildfires, Paul coordinates major disaster responses and is a trusted voice in high-pressure moments, helping families rebuild. Also a Personal Trainer, Paul often helps his team members with nutrition plans and routines for free.

PuroClean Restoration Rescuers in Spartanburg, SC

Superhero: Beverly Benson – Community Advocate

Beverly Benson is known for her relentless dedication to service. Whether donating to shelters, supporting mental health groups, or delivering food and clothing to those in need, Beverly shows up for her community every day, without hesitation. PuroClean Franchise Owner Thomas Maguire in Spartanburg, SC, spotlighted Beverly this National Superhero Day.

PuroClean Certified Restoration Specialists in Warrenton & Springfield, VA

Superhero: Master Deputy Chris Meyers – Liberty High School/Special Olympics

Deputy Meyers, a school resource officer, was honored for launching the Champions Together Unified Special Olympics Program and being a strong advocate for inclusive athletics. The PuroClean team in Warrenton, VA, led by Franchise Owners Dennis O’Brien and Brett Dalrymple,  presented Deputy Meyers with a surprise $500 donation to continue supporting his efforts.

PuroClean of West Elgin in Gilberts, IL

Superhero: Mike Baumgartner – Apex Gear Service

A military veteran and missionary, Mike was recognized for his ongoing service in global and local faith-based initiatives. The PuroClean team in Gilberts, IL, led by Franchise Owners Calvin Louangrath, Christopher Louangrath, and Guillermo Roacha, surprised Mike at his office and shared his inspiring story with the community through local outreach.

PuroClean of Burlington, WI

Superhero: Rachel Hanspal – Curtis Strange Elementary

Rachel Hanspal was selected as PuroClean of Burlington, WI, superhero through community nominations for her dedication to her students. Franchise Owners Jennifer and Jessie Wine partnered with Alpine Insurance Agency to host a school assembly and donated $1,000 in school supplies. The Wines  also commended another community member they deemed a superhero for his leadership:  Fire Chief Alan Babe, who recently retired.

Phil was honored for his tireless work in disaster recovery and partnership with the PuroClean team in New Port Richey, FL, led by Franchise Owner Gianni Cortes. The recognition took place at a celebratory lunch coordinated by PuroClean to thank Phillip for his vital behind-the-scenes support.

PuroClean of the Big Island in Hilo, HI

Superhero: Larry Reitzer – Hilo Education Arts Repertory Theatre (HEART)

Franchise Owners Gregory Arianoff and Christopher Sibel of PuroClean of the Big Island  hosted a surprise lunch to honor Larry’s contributions to local arts education. As board president of HEART, Larry helps nurture creativity and opportunity in the community.
