Fort Lauderdale, FL – In what’s being called a “perfect entrepreneurial marriage,” PuroClean, the nation’s fastest growing property damage remediation franchise, has joined forces with David McKinnon, former recipient of the International Franchise Association’s prestigious “Entrepreneur of the Year” award.

McKinnon is the CEO, Chairman, and Co-Founder of Service Brands International, a multi-concept franchisor of well-known home-services including maid, home maintenance/repair, and dry cleaning concepts. McKinnon’s ability to “brand” a service has been highly recognized in the franchising and business worlds, having won The Blue Chip Enterprise Award in 1995 and Crain’s Detroit Business “Top 40 Under 40” entrepreneurs in the state of Michigan in 1995.

PuroClean announced in November that McKinnon and his partners, Lynn Draden and Bob Ufer, acquired half ownership of PuroClean that was previously held by retired co-founder Dick Spohn. The remaining 50 percent share of PuroClean stays with Rory O’Dwyer, who co-founded the concept 16 years ago along with Spohn. Spohn has been designed an emeritus position on the board and remains an advisor for the nearly 200-unit PuroClean franchise network.

The unique investment arrangement allows PuroClean to maintain 100 percent autonomy and independence as a brand, while benefiting from the vast resources that McKinnon and his partners bring to the table. PuroClean is an emergency restoration service business providing services to insurance companies and property owners for water damage, mold, smoke, fire clean up, and trauma events. The award-winning national franchise has earned the reputation as The Paramedics of Property Damage by property owners and insurance agents, who often view PuroClean’s emergency service technicians like paramedics or firefighters for the important role they play in protecting communities 24 hours a day.

“The PuroClean organization has grown to the point where we have attracted the interest and involvement of respected industry leaders such as David McKinnon,” said PuroClean President and COO Keith Gerson. “Both our management team and our franchisees have the benefit of being able to tap into the considerable knowledge, resources and support from David and his partners. The combination of our two healthy and vibrant organizations creates a powerful positive force for the franchisees affiliated with our brands.”

McKinnon said the investment was a natural fit given the fact that both PuroClean and the affiliated brands with Service Brands International focus on professional services for homeowners. He noted that his 50 percent ownership of PuroClean will allow franchisees to benefit from the synergies of their similar service offerings in local markets.

“PuroClean is growing at such a tremendous pace and we can mutually benefit from each others skills and experience. Our investment in the company is a reflection of our appreciation for their solid franchise base, proven management team and exceptional business model,” McKinnon said. “We look forward to working with Keith and the management team to position PuroClean for its continued growth in the category, and to tapping into each other’s strengths to support our individual networks of franchisees.”
